Several in-line skaters have expressed interest in coming out for practice. Former club organizer, Heather Thompson says that there is a good cross between the sports--each sport helping the other one. Many cyclists also speed skate to keep them in shape during the winter months.
Beginners are welcome and off-ice lessons and warm up time begin well before practice. There is no charge for the pre-practice lessons. A longtime skater, Bob Harwell says that you do not need speed skates or even skates to get started. "You can use hockey skates, figure skates or rental skates to learn the techniques." The skaters are very interested in bringing beginners into the sport. These people also are more likely to excel quicker as they are taught the proper methods and techniques of the sport. "If you've never skated before, then you have no bad habits that have to be corrected," Harwell adds.
The club provides a speed skate rental
service for new speed skaters in the greater Indianapolis area. Due to
the fact that the skates are not stored at the rinks, you will need to
call 48 hours before you plan to attend a session. This will allow the
time necessary to get your skates ready for sizing or use.
